The OGA reunion was held in the old school hall on Saturday,
13 December 2014, at 5 pm. The venue was shifted from the
auditorium to the smaller hall because it had rained very
heavily the previous day and more rain was expected that
day... a pity because the seating arrangements and
decorations had to be rearranged overnight.
Registration and the school tours were from 5-6 pm. We all
converged to the hall at 6 pm, where Mahrukh Bharucha (1985)
took over the proceedings as emcee. The evening started with
the School Song and speeches by Sarla Kumar, VP OGA, the
Principal, Sujata Mullic Kumar, and Linda Pundole, a member
of the School Board. Tentative plans for the 150th year
celebrations in 2016 were shared with the girls. The
Principal said she would be happy if many old girls,
especially those from abroad, attended. They had set the
wheels in motion; suggestions were welcome.
The class of 1994 put up a video documentary of their school
years - nostalgic and very well done indeed. Twenty-three of
them were there to celebrate their 20th reunion!
Over 170 girls attended the event, more than we've had in
the past. Other alumni present ranged from the forties to
2013! Many gathered around Miss Arthur, Phyllis D'Costa,
Miss Hymes, Firoza Barucha and Candy Dugal, their old
teachers. A ton of wonderful prizes were given to pass
holders with lucky numbers. There was a lot of ' seeti
bajaoing ' as the girls went up to get their prizes! Mahrukh
had her witty remarks running thru the programme and she
ended the evening with a vote of thanks.
With the show over, we all trooped into the canteen for
refreshments. Bhel puri, pao bhaji, pizza, bhajias , gajar
halwa and cake stalls looked inviting – there was plenty to
eat along with tea, coffee and cold drinks.
I sat with the 1977 batch - 14 of them - and was pampered
silly! When they discovered I was from the class of 1953,
they were in a state of shock!
The dress code was white and blue, the School colours. What
stunning outfits - we should have had a fashion show! It was
a fun filled, rocking evening. Every one enjoyed themselves
thoroughly. None of this would have been possible without
the untiring efforts of the OGA Committee. Veena is still in
USA, and I have just returned, so it's really the team of
youngsters on the committee who actually did all the hard
work to make the evening a grand success. Thank you, each
and every one of you.
